Description
The bullnose profile on a bath unit's apron ledge, or wall edge, or soap dish and contour edges takes a lot of abuse. When it breaks it needs to be mechanically strong, but of equal importance to the homeowner is the cosmetic appeal. If the curved edge isn't sculpted correctly the reflection will call attention to the repaired area and that's how the bathroom be remembered. The most common cause of damage to the profile is an pre-existing void that occurred during the manufacturing process and impact cracks caused during the construction phase. Other causes are not as uncommon as you might think, like a crack wicking water behind the gelcoat, degrading the fiberglass, and delaminating the gelcoat finish. Sometimes it's having to cosmetically fix another company's attempt at sculpting a profile that produces an unbroken reflection.
The repair tech will remove the damage, repair fiberglass (not a structural repair - the unit must be solid), fill & fair, and topcoat. You are advised to wait for 24 hours before using.
